Massachusetts Ban 11 Flame Retardants

      28 December, 2018, the Massachusetts legislature passed the bill H 5024 to ban 11 flame retardants, effective from 1 January, 2019. The sale or manufacture of bedding, carpeting, children's products, residential upholstered furniture and window treatments containing more than 1,000 ppm of the following substances in any component part of the product to be banned:

4. HBCD，CAS No.：25637-99-4
5. TBPH，CAS No.：26040-51-7
6. TBB，CAS No.：183658-27-7
7. chlorinated paraffins，CAS No.：85535-84-8
8. TCPP，CAS No.：13674-84-5
9. pentaBDE，CAS No.：32534-81-9
10. octabBDE，CAS No.：32536-52-0
11. TBBPA，CAS No.：79-94-7
      Bans on flame retardants similar to those in Massachusetts have taken effect in other states. Effective from 1 January, 2019, Maine has prohibited the sale of residential upholstered furniture containing more than 0.1% of a flame retardant chemical, or a mixture that includes them. California has also banned the use of flame retardants in upholstered furniture, children's products and foam inside mattresses, which is expected to take effect in 2020.
